Orthopedic Residency Programs
Commitment to Excellence
The orthopedic manual physical therapy profession is in constant evolution. Models for explanations of our work are consistently undergoing fundamental changes; at the same time, explanations previously accepted within the discipline are now regarded as being incorrect.
This situation illuminates the importance of reevaluating our clinical work while maintaining the best from the past and developing clinical abilities related to new evidenced-based knowledge. Furthermore, it is imperative to perform measurable therapeutic procedures to meet the demands of outcome studies in compliance with current healthcare reforms and evidence-based procedures.
For this reason, the OGI's programs are based upon current research, a thorough clinical education, and extensive teaching experience, rather than upon a static curriculum.
DMT Residencies
The Orthopedic Residency leading to a Doctoral Degree in Orthopedic Manual Therapy is one year in length and it is offered throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
Enrolling students may choose from two options:
1) 12-month DMT Independent Study Program
2) 12-month DMT Residency Program (on-site)
If you have completed the OGI Clinical Certification Program, you are eligible for the 8-month Residency Program or the 8-month Residency Independent Study Program.
The basic sciences and an evidence-based background in clinical practice form the curricular foundation of evaluation and treatment interventions for spinal and extremity musculoskeletal dysfunctions. The instruction includes methods to improve clinical reasoning and problem solving which will assist with the development of a patient diagnosis as well as the patient's plan of care. Interventions taught would be manual therapy based with emphasis on soft tissue techniques, articulations (i.e. oscillations, mobilizations, and manipulations of the spine and extremities), and specific exercise dosing principles. |
